My Pregnancy Journey - Part 7

Swelling Fingers

It is not just about carrying baby weight. In fact, about 25 percent of pregnancy weight gain is from retaining bodily fluids, which allow joints and tissues to prepare for delivery. As we enter late pregnancy, we are likely to swell even more. It is advised that if the fingers are getting puffy, remove rings so they do not get stuck nearing delivery. Of course, if the swelling is severe or sudden, contact your OB immediately, as this may be a sign of preeclampsia. Otherwise, eat foods that are prepared with less salt, and munch on foods that are high in potassium, such as bananas. While it may seem counter-intuitive, drinking water regularly throughout the day is also helpful and always important during pregnancy.

I was hoping to wear my proposal ring and wedding band till the day I deliver, a good sign that I did not put on that much weight. Hopes were dashed when I had to remove my wedding band at 24 weeks, the ring was a perfect fit prior to pregnancy. Proposal ring which was slightly loose fit has to be temporary abandoned at 27 weeks as well. =(
